One week later, a consensus pick

NEW YORK (BASN) — One week after splitting their opinion’s on who is the top team in black college football, the voters on the Boxtorow.com/BASN FCS HBCU Coaches Top 10 Poll and the Boxtorow.com/BASN HBCU Media Top 10 Poll are in agreement. The Bulldogs of South Carolina State (1-1) are atop both of this week’s polls, which were released Monday afternoon. Following their 44-0 blanking of Mississippi Valley State, Buddy Pough’s squad were a unanimous No. 1 pick in the coaches poll and garnered all but one No. 1 nod in the media poll. Prairie View A&M (1-1), tabbed as the number two team in both top 10′s, received the other No. 1 vote in the media poll. They are followed in the poll by Florida A&M (1-1) and Tuskegee (2-0) in at four. The Rattlers, who beat MEAC foe Delaware State, are third in both polls as well. One other unbeaten team — Winston-Salem State — made the largest move in this week’s media poll. The 3-0 Rams jumped from ninth to fifth following their 34-27 road victory over North Carolina Central. The rest of the top ten includes Grambling State (0-1) at six, Norfolk State (1-1) is seven, Jackson State (2-0) at eight, and Alabama State (2-0) and Southern (1-1) tied at number nine. In the coaches’ top 10, Rick Comegy’s Tigers leaped six spots (from 10th to fourth) this week following their 33-26 victory over Tennessee State in the 21st Southern Heritage Classic at Memphis. JSU is followed by Grambling State at five, Norfolk State is sixth, and Tennessee State (1-1) seventh. Rounding out the top 10 is Alabama State at eight, Southern (1-1) is ninth, and Hampton is 10th. Key games this weekend include Albany State traveling to Abbott Stadium to meet SIAC foe Tuskegee, Prairie View A&M hosts Alabama State at Blacksheer Stadium in a SWAC battle, Florida A&M travels to Washington D.C. to meet Howard in MEAC play, and Winston-Salem State hosts Chowan in a CIAA contest.
