NEW YORK (BASN) — Just over one month into the black college football season, the top HBCU team in the land hasn’t changed.

However, the jockeying for positioning within the top 10 has been changing faster than the seasons. For the third straight week, South Carolina State (2-1) is the top team in this week’s editions of the Boxtorow.com/BlackAthlete.com HBCU Coaches and Media Top 10 polls. The Bulldogs, who were idle this past weekend, were a unanimous choice in the coaches’ top ten while they garnered 17 of 21 first-place votes from the media poll. Grambling State (2-1) is ranked second in both polls. The Tigers, who defeated Prairie View A&M 34-17 in last weekend’s State Fair Classic, moved up one spot from last week’s coaches poll. They also received one first-place vote and moved up two spots in the media poll. Regarding the rest of the media poll, Winston-Salem State (5-0) remains at number three followed by Albany State (4-0), Florida A&M (2-2), Tuskegee (3-1), Morehouse (5-0), and Jackson State (3-1). Making their debuts this week’s media poll are Alcorn State (3-0), who also received one first-place vote, and Tennessee State (2-2). The Tigers used their 29-18 victory over Florida A&M in the Atlanta Football Classic to crack the top 10. On the coaches’ side, Jackson State, Bethune-Cookman (3-0), and Hampton (2-1) make up the rest of the top five. The Wildcats’ leaped from 10th to 4th in this week’s poll following a 21-7 victory over Norfolk State. The rest of the coaches poll includes Alcorn State at six, FAMU dropping to seventh, Alabama State (3-1) goes from five to eight, Tennessee State sits at nine, and Norfolk State (2-2) drops from fourth to 10th. The Boxtorow.com/BASN poll is a collaboration between DWCommunications, LLC parent company of FROM THE PRESS BOX TO PRESS ROW and boxtorow.com and Black Athlete Sports Network. FROM THE PRESS BOX TO PRESS ROW is the nationally syndicated radio sports talk show which places major emphasis on HBCU Sports. BASN is the preeminent leader in the coverage of sports from an African-American perspective. The voters on the media poll are comprised of some of the top media members in the country who cover HBCU football. The media poll is in its fourth year and the coaches poll is in its second.
