PHOENIX – The Phoenix Suns have hired Lance Blanks as the team’s new general manager. “After a thorough search, we believe we have found the perfect choice to serve as our general manager,” said Suns President of Basketball Operations Lon Babby in a statement released by the team.

“Lance Blanks is a first-rate talent evaluator, basketball executive and person. We are thrilled that he will be joining the Phoenix Suns.”

Blanks, 43, was the vice president of basketball operations and assistant general manager of the Cleveland Cavaliers since since 2005.

Prior to joining the Cavs, he worked in the front office of the San Antonio Spurs for five seasons. He joined the team as a scout in 2000 and was later promoted to director of scouting in 2002.

Blanks was a first-round pick of the Detroit Pistons (26th overall) in 1990 out of Texas. He played two seasons for Detroit and one for the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Blanks replaces Steve Kerr, who stepped down at the end of June to return to his former job as a basketball analyst for TNT.
