A Very American Coup By Michael – Louis Ingram, Editor-in-Chief...
The Wall of Washington??
His name is John Wall, the projected No. 1 overall pick of the Washington Wizards in the 2010 NBA Draft.
The 2010 SEC Player of the Year, Wall averaged 16.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 6.5 assists per game as a freshman at the University of Kentucky.
He’s a fierce competitor and that competitive nature will eventually make him a multi-millionaire and the new face of the as well as the NBA.
Hee embodies the rare essence of the District of Columbia due to his confidence, cockiness and coolness while on the court. And for this reason, I predict Wall will make it cool to wear Wizards’ jerseys.
Like President Obama made it cool to be president.
Like brothers from Southeast made it cool to wear knee high tube socks with Timberlands in the summer, and like Chuck Brown made Go-Go, the music of choice by D.C. club goers. (Check out my article: We are some Cool People)
Because Wall has that swagger that can’t be taught but the NBA desperately needs to attract the next generation of basketball fans.
He, however must avoid the pitfalls of other No. 1 draft picks of the past, who didn’t live up to the hype especially Kwame’ Brown, the first high-schooler ever to be drafted No. 1 in the NBA, who unfortunately was selected by the Wizards in 2001.
Unlike Brown, however, I believe that Wall has the “eye of the tiger and thrill of the fight” to become a superstar in the NBA.
So D.C., get ready for John Wall!! He is coming real soon.
Sorry, Philly fans.
