SANTA CLARA — Saturday, Oregon running back LeGarrette Blount had a deal in place with the 49ers. Sunday, the deal was off.

Seeing a better opportunity with the Titans, Blount informed the 49ers that he would head to Tennessee instead, according to a source close to the situation.

Saturday, the Titans traded big-bodied running back LenDale White to Seattle, where he was reunited with former college coach Pete Carroll.

Meanwhile, the 49ers added Anthony Dixon, a sixth-round draft pick, to a running back group that already included Frank Gore, Glen Coffee and Michael Robinson. The 49ers also are interested in tailback-fullback Jehuu Caulcrick, who was signed this offseason.

The 241-pound Blount rushed for more than 1,000 yards and scored 17 touchdowns as a junior at Oregon. But his senior season took a nasty turn when, in September, he punched a Boise State player following a loss and was suspended for three months.

Character concerns kept Blount from being drafted, but he became one of the most sought-after free agents at the close of the seventh round Saturday.
