DALLAS (BASN) — The NBA All-Star festivities got off to a great start on Friday and there was plenty of action happening before the lights and camera came on.

Many members of the NBA Fraternity including players from the East and West All-Star teams along with several business partners took park in the annual NBA Cares All-Star Day of Service.

This is by far one of the most important events that will take place over the weekend or at least my favorite event.

I got involved for the first time last year in Phoenix and it was one of the best experiences of my life.

This year the projects included five home renovations, the creation of a Reading and Learning Center, a basketball court refurbishment, the construction of a brand new playground, and more, for a total of eight new places where North Texas residents can live, learn or play.

Despite the in climate weather in Dallas (its cold outside with the possibility of more snow) everyone showed up ready to work.

The Western Conference NBA All-Stars arrived at 1:45 p.m and the Eastern Conference All- Stars arrived at 2:30 p.m.

This event wouldn’t have been possible without business partners such as HP, The Timberland Company, Adidas, Best Buy and State Farm to Create Eight New Places for North Texas Kids and Families, Rebuilding Together Greater Dallas, North Texas Volunteer Center, and KaBoom!

Some of the All-Stars that were on hand included Dwight Howard, Kevin Garnett, Chauncey Billups, Tim Duncan, Derrick Rose, and Daequan Cook.

NBA Legends Darryl Dawkins, Bob Lanier, Dikembe Mutombo, Ron Harper, and Allan Houston weren’t about to miss out on this action.

Ashley Robinson, Marie Ferdinand-Harris and Scholanda Robinson of the WNBA along with Arlington Texas Mayor, Robert Cluck, rolled their sleeves up and got busy and there were plenty of locations to choose from.

KaBOOM!

Playground Build in partnership with Adidas and State Farm Summit International Preparatory 1100 Roosevelt Street in Arlington.

Next year, when you come to Los Angeles for the 2011 NBA All-Star Game, be sure to arrive early and make time to participate in one of the greatest event of the weekend.
