Straight No Chaser: The Haitian Crisis
It’s got to be a form of torture having to endure minutes which feel like hours drag by, waiting, and waiting for some word about . . . grandmother, little sister . . . my god.
Indianapolis Colt’s Split-Receiver, and I do mean split, lickedy spit quick Pierre Garcon is one who was sitting on pins n’ needles – enduring the initial aftermath of the quake, waiting and waiting, as was Philadelphia 76ers center Samuel Dalembert, who’s got family, including his father, and WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto – from Haiti, his parents . . . still there trapped in the “self imposed Hell” they bartered with the devil a few centuries back . . . according to TV bible thumbing fruit-cake Pat Robertson . . . .
I can only wonder what these Haitian-Americans were feeling when they herd radical “reverend ridiculous” – Pat Robertson and his derogatory, insulting, belittling, ass-backward comments; Something happened a long time ago in Haiti and people might not want to talk about it. They were under the heel of the French. Napoleon the Third and whatever.
And they got together and swore a pact to the devil. They said, “We will serve you if you get us free from the prince.” True story. And so the devil said, “OK, it’s a deal.” They kicked the French out, the Haitians revolted and got themselves free.”
Keep-in-mind, this is the same religious pimp who’s claimed God sent Hurricane Katrina as punishment for the country’s sin’s, like abortion and gay marriage.
Haitian Ambassador Raymond Joesph set Robertson’s ignorant-of-Western-history ass straight on MSNBC‘s Rachel Maddow show, where he gave this self-righteous idiot a brief but blunt history lesson pertaining to the historical impact of the Haitian Revolution.
It produced the Louisiana Purchase, a major turning point.
This lone acquisition doubled the nation’s size, making it vast enough to withstand almost any external threat. From this came the heartland, control of the Mississippi River and the vital port city of New Orleans on the Gulf of Mexico.
In a broader sense, the Purchase fundamentally altered America; the Louisiana territory attracted European-immigrants, forever diversifying America’s national character.
The Haitian Revolt, in the long long run gave birth, if not to the term, at least to the forces behind ” Manifest Destiny” which, in part led to a monumental civil conflict over racist states right to enslave humans – a defining moment in US History, the Civil War . . . .
The “curse” Robertson is babbling about; part of the Haitian revolutionary lore – one of the revolution’s leaders sacrificed a pig in Bois Caïmin, a voodoo ceremony, eliciting a contract with Petwo (Haitian voodoo spirits.) True . . . or not, in the eye’s of Robertson, this constitutes a “deal with the devil.” Yet it has nothing to do with the devil.
Under the guise of “my god is bigger n’ better than your god” banner, Robertson is painting a extremely inaccurate representation of what voodoo is.
This con-man is judging anothers’ religious practice – based on his comical, fanatical evangelical religious beliefs, and condemning another belief system, transforming another man’s beliefs into a sleezy conjuring-up of the devil.
Pat Robertson is preaching hatred by directly implying Haitians are damned, being punished for this alleged deal with the devil, with absolute poverty, suffering and desperation.
As was the folks in Naw Leans during Katrina. I don’t think Pat thinks . . . god likes Black people.
When in truth, Haiti is devastatingly poor for a vast array of reasons, starting with . . . it is a former slave coloney . . every resident there had an ancestor dragged there in chains, America and Europe orchestrated a blockade on trade and commerce after the revolution in 1804, stunting the growth of a new born nation.
The already extremely divided and polarized color/class stratification was maintained, where only the anointed assumed the power of the former plantation owners.
This has lead to a non-stop struggle for freedom and justice.
There’s been a horrible cycle of ruthless explotation and autocracy within Haitian leadership for decades, one in which America an dother Euro powers have played an instrumental role in the continual chaos which has plagued the country over the last century.
Now, as this small island nation sit’s in shammbles, in true turmoil, due to nothing they did, but an act of Mother Nature, and a man who was but steps away from owning a piece of an prestigious NFL team, and whose racist, sexist and elitist diatribes can be herd on powerhouse radio stations who package his top-rated rant fest in-between NFL, MLB, NBA and NCAA contest.
Being a man of color, and certainly if I were Haitian, I’d wonder how many NFL owners are buddies with Rush . . . and feel as he does . . . screw those Island Niggers, because that is what Rush thinks, just listen to him if you can stomach it.
Volcanic acid riddled eruptions directly from the mouth of Mt Rush; Haiti produces “zilch, zero, nada,” or this goodie; Obama will use Haiti to boost credibility with the “light-skinned and dark-skinned black community in this country.”
And least we drive by this one; “We’ve already donated to Haiti . . . it’s called the US Income Tax.” So, in other words, don’t send a red nickle, we’ve (White folks) already done more than our fair share . . . .
Ain’t that a racist, selfish, quasi-obese elitist redneck ass-hole for you . . . !
The world is mobilizing to help, while old angry bitter White men in America are blaming the world’s poorest country for tetonic plates shifting a few miles under the earth’s surface.
Am I the only one who can’t understand why these sports institutions remain in bed with this bloated bastard?
Yeah . . dig that; conservative blow-torch stations exploit Black gladiators – to produce a revenue stream which enriches the radio station, an operation which-in-turn pumps-out hatred around the clock centered and focused on . . . people-of-color.
Can Rush say anything which might offend players so much so . . . they reconsider having their hard work and effort played on radio stations which broadcast this bastards twisted White supremist thoughts.
Will coaches, athletic directors, owners or apathetic fans ever get to a point where they say . . . enough is enough.
