Straight No Chaser: Stars & Gripes

DENVER (BASN) — After Iowa won Tuesday night’s Orange Bowl , Hawkeye quarterback Ricky Stanzi was asked if he “feels like sometimes you’re representing more than just a school or a conference, maybe an entire group of American citizens out there.”

His reply; “Well of course. I mean, there’s nothing better than being American. So I mean, this is the greatest feeling. If you don’t love it, leave it. U.S.A. number one!”

I need to nip this senseless gibberish in the bud . . . !

Really Ricky Stanzi, you’re serious with that 1968 Tricky Dick Nixon line? Yes. Apparently the signal caller must be stuck in another dimension or simply delusional.

America , of course, on paper – a beautiful concept. One human . . . one vote. A Representative Democracy – embracing capitalism. The mere thought itself, an “A+” term paper, yet, in reality, the actual USA, the everyday USA, the behind closed doors USA . . .

is not as beautiful a picture.

Reagan’s Trickle Down theory is transforming the land of a-plenty into a nation of Land-Lords and Landless. Haves, and have-nots.

Considering the last quarter century in American history, it’s far-fetched to imagine all, even most Black Americans would display a certain level of blind loyalty and respect for the United States – while, in the same breath, we represent those throughout the story of this country, who’ve, in the shadow of the Stars and Stripes, been oppressed, raped, murdered, pillaged, enslaved and exploited by the Euro-American majority, the self-anointed “true Americans . . . . “

But still, till this day, guys like Stanzi, a scholar/gladiator, a young Caucasian cat, apart of the one and only authentic Americans who demand – we all love it, praise it, or leave it. . . go back to Africa?

Ricky like most of his generation has no clue how most folks of color feel about this land, who don’t feel the love peculating forth from the land of equality and liberty. Instead, they see themselves constantly, consistently depicted as the, indisputable Public Enemy No. 1.

Ricky can’t breakdown the story of America; Ol’ Glory flew over this nation as white guys – in a Jolly Rogers/skull & cross-bones manner – snatched the physical resources from American Natives and Mexicans, than extracted the wealth with the blood, sweat and tears of America’s only forced immigrants, African slaves.

No? That’s not an accurate account of how this empire was constructed? Should that perspective be never ever forgotten?

Today, the angry White establishment stipulates colored folk forgive/forget about 400 years of being pimped and exploited – dehumanized. By now the “right” in this nation has quickly forgotten the manner in which this nation has reached global prominence, and today young men scream out such simplistic thoughts as; ” America, love it . . . or leave it.”

Simply pledge our allegiance to its continued domination of the world . . . .

Least any of us forget, the America we must all love – did sanction the ” Trail of Tears” and “No Dogs – No Mexicans” signs, the force-feeding of Columbus, the explorer, who stumbled upon islands – full of people.

This land of liberty and equality demands Black folks stand, salute, bow and hold in dear reverence – a nation which still today rationalizes racial profiling, police brutality and real estate redlining.

“Indivisible, with liberty and justice for . . . all?” Please, give me a blinking break.

Who buys into such authentic frontier gibberish – but white people? How can they, this nation’s self-appointed nobility, the privileged class, ask, no – demand of second class citizens that we, one and all, acknowledge, praise – a country which remains segregated and unequal even today?

Believe me you; one Black President don’t change that much.

A country where the American Dream is attainable for most folks of color and women – only if they can navigate their way through a white-male-made/ tactically laid-out mine field of racist, sexist and elitist obstacles.

Most Americans who’ve been on the receiving end of Anglo generated insults like “we’re victims of reverse discrimination. . .

we well understand the complexity of our being an American; our sons and daughters can done the military uniforms of this country and defend “your” nation.

We “minorities” grasp the duplicity of mainstream USA – which doesn’t want our kids to socialize with your kids in schools, neighborhoods nor shopping malls, nonetheless….you do hope my son is blind enough, ignorant to the point he signs up to serve as sacrificial pawns in the Arabian desert.

Its fine and dandy if Black and Brown kids want to die for Wall Street’s desire to monopolize the global market, lower the wages of the American worker bee – but our kids still can’t buy a beer in trendy yuppie uptown/downtown pubs and sit and comfortably enjoy it.

White flight filled suburbia balks and bitches about putting money into schools or hospitals – they’d rather invest in the stock of private-for-profit prisons. . . .

Black America struggles with the harsh reality Fredrick Douglass spoke of a few hundred years ago . . . :

What, to the American slave, is your 4th of July? I answer: a day that reveals to him, more than all other days in the year, the gross injustice and cruelty to which he is the constant victim.

To him, your celebration is a sham; your boasted liberty, an unholy license; your national greatness, swelling vanity; your sounds of rejoicing are empty and heartless; your denunciations of tyrants, brass fronted impudence; your shouts of liberty and equality, hollow mockery; your prayers and hymns, your sermons and thanksgivings, with all your religious parade, and solemnity, are, to him, mere bombast, fraud, deception, impiety, and hypocrisy — a thin veil to cover up crimes which would disgrace a nation of savages.

There is not a nation on the earth guilty of practices, more shocking and bloody, than are the people of these United States, at this very hour . . . . ”

If nothing else, Rick Stanzi is articulating a dreadful phrase white men no longer have the societal clout, influence nor, thank god, the power to demand all we little people adhere to their cultural whims and political wishes.
