NEW YORK (BASN) — For the second straight week, the Bulldogs of South Carolina State are the No. 1 team in the Boxtorow.com/BASN HBCU FCS Coaches Top 10 Football Poll presented by Classics Sports Radio Network.

Coming off their Florida “doubleheader” sweep of Grambling State and Bethune Cookman, Buddy Pough’s bunch will have the week off. They’ll be back in action on September 26th when they host Winston-Salem State at Oliver C. Dawson Stadium.

The undefeated Bulldogs received all but two of this week’s first-place votes. Florida A&M (2-0) got the other two first-place nods. The Rattlers remained at No. 2 following their convincing 34-10 victory against WSSU.

For the second straight week, FAMU will open this weekend’s action on a Thursday night. This week, the Rattlers will host MEAC foe Howard at Tallahassee. The game can be seen on ESPNU starting at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Rounding out this week’s top five is Grambling State (1-1), who jumped from five to three. Alabama A&M (2-0) remains at number four followed by Prairie View A&M (1-1) who dropped from third to fifth.

While the Panthers are off this week, A&M continues the non-conference portion of their schedule as they host Jacksonville State at Louis Crews Stadium. As for Grambling, the Tigers travel to Mississippi to battle Jackson State in a rematch of last year’s SWAC Championship Game.

The rest of the poll includes Southern (1-1) who jumped from eighth to sixth. North Carolina A&T (2-0) also went up two spots from ninth to seventh. Tennessee State (1-1) and Alabama State (2-0) are back in the top ten at eight and nine respectively, and Hampton (1-1) rounds out the poll at No. 10.

A 14-7 victory over Jackson State in Saturday’s Southern Heritage Classic helped propel TSU into this week’s poll. The win gave TSU their seventh consecutive victory against JSU and an 11-9 overall record in the Classic. Saturday, the Tigers will travel to Baton Rouge to take on Southern.

In other key games this weekend, Alabama State hosts Edward Waters at the Cramton Bowl. Also, North Carolina A&T hosts Hampton at Aggie Stadium in a key MEAC tussle. The game, scheduled for 6 p.m. ET, will be shown on ESPNU on a tape-delayed basis at 10:30 p.m. ET.
