A Clean Sweep For The Bulldogs

BTRC Poll NEW YORK (BASN) — They’re the No. 1 team in the BTRC/BASN HBCU Coaches poll. Now the writers have spoken and they agree as well. The Bulldogs of South Carolina State are currently black college football’s top team.

Following the release of the season’s first BoxToRow.com/BASN HBCU Media Top 10 Poll, Buddy Pough’s squad (2-0) sits on the top spot. SCSU received 11 first-place votes, with second-ranked Florida A&M (2-0) and sixth-ranked Shaw (3-0), splitting the other two.

The Rattlers will open this weekend’s action for the second straight with a Thursday night contest. FAMU will host Howard on ESPNU. Game time is 7:30 pm ET. The Bears will seek their first 4-0 start since 2003 when they travel to West Grove, Pa. to battle Lincoln.

The rest of the top five includes three SWAC teams — Alabama A&M (2-0) at No. 3, Grambling State (1-1) at No. 4, and Prairie View (1-1) at No. 5. Two of those teams — the Bulldogs and the Tigers — will be in action this weekend.

GSU travels to Mississippi to meet league foe Jackson State (0-2) in a rematch of last year’s SWAC Championship Game. As for A&M, they’ll host Jacksonville State at Louis Crews Stadium.

The rest of the top ten has North Carolina A&T (2-0) at seven, Southern (1-1) is eighth, Albany State (3-0) sits at number nine, and Alabama State (2-0) rounds out the poll at tenth.

The Aggies and Jaguars will both have key home games this weekend. In Greensboro, N.C, A&T will host Hampton at Aggie Stadium on Saturday at 6 p.m. ET The game will be televised on a tape-delayed basis on ESPNU at 10:30 p.m. ET.

As for Southern, they’ll host Tennessee State Saturday night in Baton Rouge.
