HONOLULU — Sponsor Me has announced that it will stage the Sponsor Me Hawaii 1-star World Qualifying Series (WQS) event next month, August 15-22, at Ala Moana Bowls, Hawaii.

The event is sanctioned by the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) and is open to both amateur and professional surfers who are looking to gain traction in the pro ranks. The event will be broadcast live over the internet by surf.transworld.net, the leader for online surfing culture.

As the only entry-level WQS event to be staged in Hawaii this year, Sponsor Me Hawaii will offer an opportunity for locals to earn a start in the coveted year-end Vans Triple Crown of Surfing series. It is precisely this window of opportunity that is the mission behind Sponsor Me: bringing the spotlight to the best undiscovered action sports talent in the nation.

Sponsor Me is creating contest opportunities for rising action sports athletes. The contests are supported by live webcasts via the Sponsor Me site and delivery to mobile devices. Sponsor Me competitions will be held regionally, judged by the pros, and the winners will go on to compete on a national level where fans will have the opportunity to vote online and via SMS. “The significance of this event couldn’t be any greater,” says Chris Carmichael, Sponsor Me Co-Founder. “Especially for the locals who don’t have the opportunity to compete in many of the contests that provide them the footing they need to move on to the prestigious Vans Triple Crown of Surfing.”

Sponsor Me has teamed up with Transworld Surf, Surfing Live, and ASP Hawaii to broadcast the entire event live.

“Transworld Surf couldn’t be more stoked to have partnered up with Sponsor Me on this event,” says Charlie Anderson, Publisher of Transworld Surf. “It’s the type of event we’ve been looking to support in Hawaii,” Anderson went on to say, “This contest really provides the young guys with the opportunity they’re looking for to break out of the clutter, make some noise, and get the recognition they deserve to take their skill to the next level. ”
