Getting Ready For The Fourth
JAMAICA — Professional and semi-professional surfers across the region are gearing up fot the 2009 renewal of the CSN/JSA Makka Pro surfing contest on July 4-5 at the Makka surfing beach in Southaven St. Thomas.
With just over two weeks to go, entrants from Barbados, Trinidad and the USA have already confirmed their participation. “The JSA has already received calls and emails from top surfers from around the region confirming their participation in this year’s event” said JSA President Billy Wilmot.
“Winner of the inaugural event in 2007, Trinidadian Champion Jason Apericio, will be coming in with vengeance in his eyes after his early dismissal in the ’08 contest, as was top Bajan surf legend Mark Holder”.
Last year’s highest placing open contestant Inilek Wilmot and his brother Icah will be in the hunt for Jamaica’s first win in the open division along with other top local surfers like Luke Williams and Jamaican junior Champion Shane Simmonds who will step up from his junior division win last year to face the “big boys” in the open division.
This year marks the third time Jamaica will play host to the region’s best pro surfers who will all be trying to cash in on the over J$500,000.00 in prize money up for the taking. The prize money sponsored by SUZUKI will be paid out in US$ as follows.
