Colts HOUSTON — The Houston Texans recently hosted their annual “Shop with a Texan” event at the Academy Sports & Outdoors located on Westheimer at Voss.

28 children from Child Protective Services were given the opportunity to go shopping with all of the Houston Texans rookies.

All of the children were broken up into groups of three.

Each child had the opportunity to shop with a player. They each had one hour to shop and $100 to shop with. The concept of the event was to teach kids to buy more items that are worth less rather than one item for $100.

15 kids came from CPS and the other 13 were from the Fresh Start Residential Treatment Center located in Northeast Houston.

Texans rookie players participating in the event were: Xavier Adibi, Dominique Barber, Duane Brown, Antwaun Molden, Frank Okam, Steve Slaton, Darnell Jenkins, Jesse Nading, and Alex Brink.

“I really enjoyed coming out and going shopping with the kids,” Texan No.1 pick Duane Brown said. “It was such a joy to see the smiles on their faces.”

“It’s a blessing to be in position to come out and do something for the children, especially during the Christmas Holiday season.”

Afterwards all of the children and the players posed for one big photo to commemorate the event.
