NEW YORK — If you love college basketball, drum lines, and partying in New York City, The Big Apple Classic is just for you. On Saturday, in NYC’S famous Madison Square Garden, thousands will come out in support of their favorite HBCU basketball team as they take part in the competition of a lifetime.

Howard University, Hampton University, Bowie State University, and Virginia Union University will all participate in the third annual Big Apple Classic Tournament. The event has become a holiday season staple in NYC and this year promises to be bigger and better than ever.

The 2008 Big Apple Classic will feature a match- up between long standing rivals: Howard University and Hampton University in their on-going battle over who is the real “HU,” and fierce Division II competitors Virginia Union University and Bowie State University will also take center court.

But the 2008 Big Apple Classic is not just about basketball. We’re bringing the down south college experience to the “Big Apple” and participants can expect a step show, drum line competition, college fair and much more. Celebrity guests, alumni, students, and friends will pack Madison Square Garden on Saturday for an experience like no other.

A portion of the proceeds from the 2008 Big Apple Classic will benefit the American Cancer Society. Doors open at Madison Square Garden at 4:00pm and tip off for VU v. Bowie is at 5:00 p.m. and Howard v. Hampton is at 7:00 p.m.
