TUCKER, Ga. — The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference is proud to announce that the City of Albany, Georgia will be the new home for the Baseball Championship.

The three year agreement will begin April 30-May 2, 2009 and will run through the last weekend in April of 2011. Paul Eames Sports Complex will be the new home during this agreement.

In years past the SIAC has hosted the Baseball Championship as apart of a six sport spring festival. The festival included Baseball, Softball, Men’s & Women’s Tennis, and Men’s & Women’s Track & Field.

Baseball and Softball will split from the spring sports festival while Tennis and Track & Field will remain a tandem. Over the past three years the Spring Sports Festival was held in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on the campus of Stillman College. Prior to that the Championships were held in Albany and were hosted by Albany State University in 2005.

The new agreement has the City of Albany hosting the event, thanks in part to the efforts of Suzanne Davis, Director of the Albany Recreation and Parks Department, and Franessa Stalter who is the Assistant Director of the Recreation and Parks Department.

Paul Eames Sports Complex will be the home for the championship with the championship game being held in the main stadium. Paul Eames Sports Complex is also the home of the South Georgia Peanuts, a minor league baseball team apart of the Southern Coast League.

The stadium opened in 1993, and is the former home of the Albany Polecats, a one-time South Atlantic League affiliate of the Montreal Expos. More recently, the park has been occupied by the Albany Alligators (Independent All- American Association), as well as the Colorado Silver Bullets, an experimental professional women’s baseball team.

In 2002, the South Georgia Waves came to town for one season prior to relocating to Columbus. The ballpark seats about 3,500 fans, features ample administrative office space, and room to add group picnic areas down the lines.

Interim Commissioner, George Mategakis stated “When asked to serve as Interim Commissioner, one of my goals was to enhance the SIAC Championship experience for our student-athletes, coaches, administrators and fans.”

“We truly believe that the city of Albany, the Parks and Recreation department and Paul Eames Sports Complex will help us achieve that goal. The coaches have expressed great pleasure in knowing they will be competing for the conference baseball championship at a world class facility.”

“We humbly thank Suzanne and Franessa for their tireless work to bring the championship to Albany.”
