Smith, Granger Host A Celebrity Weekend
The events, which were sponsored by Audi USA through its local dealership, Momentum Audi, Scion, NIKE, Footlocker, Powerade, and FSMG, benefitted “The Rookie Foundation” and “The AIM High Foundation”.
The celebrity weekend kicked off with a golf classic hosted by Smith and Granger at the Redstone Golf Club, located in Humble, Texas. Participants got to play 18 holes of golf, and receive a player gift package, raffle, lunch and awards ceremony.
They also got to participate in a Silent and Live Auction.
The two friends hosted a free basketball clinic from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. at the Fonde Recreation Center in Downtown Houston. Children from various parks throughout the city, received drills and instruction from the staff.
They also had a complimentary lunch presented by Burger King. School supplies were given out at the conclusion of the camp.
Granger, who serves as the executive director of the Nike Summer Pro City Basketball League held at the Fonde Recreation Center decided to join with his friend to help host the event.
“We have all been friends for a very long time and have always helped each other out,” Granger stated. “We all believe in giving back to the Houston community, which has given so much to all of us.”
The weekend ended with a celebrity softball game that was played at Memorial Park Field No. 1. The Black team led by Granger, Nick Van Exel (NBA), Mike James (New Orleans Hornets), Bobby Z (KILT 610), Floy Johnson, and Ronnie Coleman (FCA President) defeated Kenny Smith’s gray team 14-11 in the seven-inning game.
Damon Stoudamire (San Antonio Spurs) and D-Mars were on Smith’s team, which was coached by Pro City executive director Kevin Allen.
