ABAINDIANAPOLIS — The American Basketball Association has announced that an expansion team will begin play in December in Bowling Green, Kentucky. According to Joe Newman, ABA CEO, “We should be in Kentucky. Basketball (along with horse racing) is king there.”

“They have so many great players from Kentucky, Louisville, Western Kentucky, Bowling Green and other great schools; we know the talent will be excellent and we have a bright, young committed owner with a love for basketball and business.”

At 24 years old, Jason Smith is the former CEO of the Memphis Thunder Semi-Pro Football Team (NAFL), former VP of R.B.G. Corporation (his family business), former Youth Pastor of Solid Rock Pentecostal Holiness Church in Memphis, TN where he was born, and currently President of S & A Corporation, and is the youngest ABA team owner.

“This is a dream come true,” stated Smith. “I have watched the ABA and know that I can put together a quality organization and an excellent team. To have an opportunity like this is amazing and we are going to work very hard to make Bowling Green very proud of us. We are looking forward to a great season.”

“We have much to do…hiring a coach, putting together a staff, having tryouts, doing our marketing, etc.,” added Smith, “but we have a definite game plan and know that we will be ready when the season opens in December.”
