ABA To Play In Aurora For 2008-09 Season
INDIANAPOLIS — The American Basketball Association announced that it has added Aurora, Illinois to its fast-growing league. Joe Newman, ABA CEO stated, “We’re very pleased to have Aurora in the league and proud to have Kenny Battle as the owner.”
“Kenny did a great job as GM/Coach of the Hammond Rollers; now he is prepared for ownership and has been putting together a very strong organization. He is very well known in the area and has a large following.”
Battle is a former NBA player selected by the Detroit Pistons in the first round of the 1989 NBA Draft. On draft day, he was traded to the Phoenix Suns and played for the Suns, the Boston Celtics and the Golden State Warriors during his career.
After starting college at Northern Illinois, he transferred to Illinois and was in the 1989 Final Four of the NCAA Tournament. A former coach of the Harlem Globetrotters, he just finished his first season as a color analyst for the Big 10 Network and operates KB Hoops, an organization specializing in youth basketball camps.
“Joe and I have been talking about this for the past couple of years,” stated Battle. “I didn’t want to rush into this until I was ready and knew that I could put together a good business organization and a good basketball organization. ”
“I am fortunate to have Keith Jones as my General Manager. Keith is very knowledgeable and knows what it takes to be successful both on and off the court. We’ll be strong in both areas.”
