BaseballsLAUREL, Md. — Just a year ago MLB celebrated the 60th Anniversary of Jackie Robinson. However, a year later after the photo ops and the media frenzy of so-called supporters, not much has changed.

The Richmond-based Metropolitan Junior Baseball League (MJBL) will attempt to heighten the awareness of their efforts and raise much needed funding by hosting a start studded event at Shawn “Jay Z” Carter’s 40/ 40 Club in New York City during the MLB All Star weekend.

MJBL, a 42-year-old non-profit organization, and the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association (MLBPAA) have teamed up to present the first annual ‘Casino Nights’ on Sunday, July 13.

A charity event that will converge professional athletes, celebrities, and a few lucky fans that will have the chance to come together for an unforgettable night held at the world famous 40/40 Club in Manhattan to raise funds to continue the efforts of MJBL which currently consist of 16 states and over 6,500 minority youths between the ages of 6 and 19.

MJBL hopes that by coming to baseball’s largest stage, New York City that the people will finally take notice of the issue and more importantly do something about it.

“When Jackie Robinson’s Anniversary came around players, and corporations said they wanted to do something about this issue. We are giving them an opportunity to be a part of America’s longest standing African American Baseball league and this event represents our challenge to America to help us make a difference.” Says MJBL Executive director William Forrester, Jr.

The event will consist of a Poker tournament and players will also have the opportunity to take part in other casino style games that include Black Jack, Roulette, and slot machines.

The tournament will be open up to 200 athletic and celebrity participants and a limited number of the general public. Contestants will be able to enter the tournament by purchasing $500 to $1000 in chips.

The invite list for the event will consist of a blend of stars from the worlds of sports and entertainment. Invitees include Jay Z and Alex Rodriguez along with a host of other athletes and entertainers.

While the night will be full of good fun, great times, and great people; they will be partying with a purpose. All profits from the event will be going towards MJBL’s efforts to empower minority youth, their communities and institutions through the game of baseball.

The MLBPAA will also be auctioning off several items from former MLB stars.
