Box and One with Chris Paul

SEATTLE — At this time in the NBA, I don’t think that there’s a player that is more driven or focused the New Orleans Hornets Chris Paul. “I just love this game and every time I step on the court I do what is asked of me and whatever is needed to get our team a win”, said Paul.

He’s just a couple of months short of his 23rd birthday but possess a maturity that is far beyond his years. “I’ve been fortunate to have some great coaches throughout my career and strong family support”, Paul said.

“I was taught at a young age about how to conduct myself.” Paul can beat you in so many different ways that it is ridiculous. “I just take with the defense gives me and try to make the right decisions in the open court”, he added.

He’s currently averaging 20.9 ppg, 4 rpg, 2.7 steals and 10.8 apg which is the second best in the league so I think that it’s safe to say that the kid is going to be alright.

“Playing with Chris just makes my job so much easier and he always seem to get me the ball in positions where I can score and can hit me in perfect stride to the basket”, stated Tyson Chandler. These comments were echoed by several other players across the league that played with Chris during the summer with Team USA.

Don’t let the pretty face and the low top fade fool you, Paul is a fierce competitor and works very hard at his craft. “You can take anything for granted, nothing is promised and you must be focused to play at this level and make the most of all your opportunities in order to be successful in the NBA”, said Paul

Chris claims that he didn’t really pattern his game after anyone and I believe him. He really doesn’t’ look like a basketball player, more like a strong safety who will knock you up into the stands if you came his way. Paul added, “I use to get those types of comments a lot until people saw me play.”

His speed is deceptive and he can stop on the dime. What amazes me is his movement and how the defense reacts to it. If you notice, Chris seldom ever takes a direct line to the basket.

It’s usually a left, right, head fake with a wicked first step, off the pick. Then again, he can create his own shot with out any problems. Paul is the complete package. He doesn’t just assist on the basketball court but is a vital member of society and contributes in so many different ways.

He raises money for various charities and churches. Consistently finds ways to support the Winston Salem Community and has created a Celebrity Bowling Tournament.

I had to ask him, what was with the bowling? “Oh, I am serious about bowling and have been doing it for years”, Paul said. It’s a great sport that the entire family can come out and participate. Unfortunately, I don’t have any competition on this team.

Mo Peterson thought he had a little game until I dropped that 290 on him.” Paul currently serves a national spokesperson for the United States Bowling Congress.

The New Orleans Hornets will make it to the playoffs this year and will go as far as their “Young General”, Chris Paul, will lead them.
