Shawne Merriman

for winning an Award

That doesn’t get the Respect it deserves.

Having earned the fearsome moniker “Lights Out” it is not surprising first year San Diego Chargers linebacker Merriman beat out all the Competition by quite a bit in this annual Associated Press award. As the 12th overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft which makes him the Chargers first choice when most teams go on the Offense and then think Defense you’d expect Shawne to be impressive.

And as proven by this prestigious award

Shawne Merriman did not disappoint San Diego brass or the fans. This first year he had 10 Sacks and 57 tackles proving how Good he is. And to prove just how Good he is Merriman played a pivotal role in the Chargers upset of the Colts their first Loss of the season after 13 wins without a Loss. Shawne sacked Payton Manning twice in this game and was on his Tail all game long.

In San Diego Chargers history Merriman is the first Rookie to ever lead the team im tackles for a season. Shawne out of the University of Maryland where he led their Defense is most often described as Relentless. Which he is.
