BoxToRow.com/BASN Logo NEW YORK — For the Hornets of Delaware State, it was business as usual. Another win, another week as black college football’s top team. Al Lavan’s squad now prepare for a postseason date against their state rivals this Friday.

The match-up between the Hornets, the No. 1 team in this week’s BoxToRow.com/BASN Top 10 HBCU Football Poll, and the University of Delaware Blue Hens will finally happen in the first round of the NCAA D-I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) National Tournament.

The historic game will kickoff on Friday at Delaware Stadium in Newark. Kickoff is 1:30 pm and the game will be televised live on ESPN HD and simulcast on ESPN 360. The match up has received national media attention and highlighted on ESPN’s Outside the Lines.

The schools are separated by 45 miles, but have never competed in football. This is a historical match-up for the entire State of Delaware, but most of all it is the first step for both in the national championship race.
As for the rest of the BTRC/BASN top five, Grambling State (8-2) is second followed by SIAC champion Tuskegee (10-0), Norfolk State (8-3), and Jackson State (7-4).

The Tigers clinched its first berth in the conference title game in eight years with a win over Alcorn State on Saturday. They’ll meet Grambling State in Birmingham on December 15th. In another interstate battle, GSU will meet their rivals from Southern (7-3) this Saturday afternoon in the Bayou Classic on NBC.

The rest of the poll includes Prairie View A&M (7-3) at number six, Alabama A&M (8-3) and Southern (7-3) tied for seventh, Albany State (8-3) at number nine, and Virginia Union (9-2).

The Panthers wrapped up its best season in more than 40 years with a win against Alabama A&M 30-20 Saturday night. They had their most victories since 1964, when they went 9-0 and its first winning season since 1976.
One other key HBCU game this week will be the 84th Annual Turkey Day Classic between Alabama State and Tuskegee at Montgomery. The game can be seen on the Internet Thursday at www.wsfa.com.
