Heisman StatueCONNECTICUT — Here’s a brief look at my top five Heisman Trophy award candidates entering this weekend’s action.

1. Kentucky QB Andre Woodson: He is having a great season and was 35-50 in Kentucky’s recent dramatic win. He threw for 415 yards and 5 touchdowns. He is the best quarterback in the nation right now.

2. Missouri QB Chase Daniel: He is also having a great season for a team that is playing way over their expectations.

3. Boston College QB Matt Ryan: Once again a huge year and Thursday night will say it all as his team plays at Virginia Tech. He was 32-49 against Notre Dame for 291 yards and 2 touchdowns.

4. Rutgers RB Ray Rice: He has inserted himself back in the Heisman picture with two great games. His team is playing West Virginia this Saturday and his running will be the key. Let’s see how he makes out.

5. Arkansas RB Darren McFadden: He had 110 yards in the Ole Miss game but also had two receptions and is still the best running back in the country.
