CONNECTICUT — Here’s a brief look at my top five Heisman Trophy Award candidates through the first full month of the season:

1. RB Darren McFadden, Arkansas: He is still keeping his Heisman hopes alive even though his team is not faring that well. He is averaging 6.3 rpg and his receiving has picked up from last season. The Hogs still have no quality wins.

2. QB Colt Brennan, Hawaii: He is completing over 73% of his passes for the Rainbow Warriors. They are undefeated and he led his team to a 48-20 win over Idaho on the road with a 30 completion day for 369 yards. He has thrown for 15 touchdowns this year.

3. RB Mike Hart, Michigan: The Wolverines are back and Hart is the reason. He has already rushed for 761 yards this year including a touchdown run of 54 yards. He has not fumbled. He led his team to win against Northwestern with a fine rushing outing.

4. QB Andre Woodson, Kentucky: The Wildcat quarterback has injected himself into the Heisman race. He has thrown for 1,309 yards and his team has pulled a miracle upset out against Louisville.

5. QB John David Booty, USC: The Trojan quarterback has helped engineer the 4-0 start for his team. He has thrown for 875 yards this season and has ten touchdown passes which would be a projected 30 touchdown passes for the season. He is one of the best in the country at his position.
