1st Annual SWAC Youth Football Clinic

swac swac swac swac swac swac swac swac swac NEW YORK, NY.— The Southwestern Athletic Conference and the City of Birmingham will co-sponsor the 1st Annual SWAC Youth Football Clinic on July 29, 2004 at Legion Field from 9:00a to 12n. Approximately 300-400 K – 8th grade boys and girls are expected to participate in the football clinic directed by current SWAC head football coaches and SWAC Conference office staff.

The clinic will be held at Legion Field (at the soccer field near parking lot J). Clinic parking will be available at lot J. In case of bad weather, the clinic will be conducted at Fair Park Arena located at 2331 Bessemer Road in Birmingham .

The clinic is free for all City of Birmingham and Jefferson County K-8th grade football players and coaches. Clinic participants must have a general release form signed by his/her, parent/guardian in order to participate in the clinic. The first 300 participants will receive a free SWAC Youth Clinic T-Shirt, and lunch will be available for all participants The clinic program will consist of drills on fundamentals, technique, fine points of the game, offense, defense, special teams and kicking. There will be a punt, pass, kick competition between clinic participants.

SWAC football coaches scheduled to participate in the clinic are; Anthony Jones (Alabama A&M), Charles Coe (Alabama State), Melvin Spears (Grambling State), James Bell (Jackson State) and Willie “Satellite” Totten (Miss. Valley State).

For parents/guardians who cannot transport their child to the clinic, the SWAC with the help of the local City of Birmingham YMCAs will provide transportation for children to and from the clinic only.
