BASN’s Heisman Trophy Watch

CONNECTICUT — Here’s a brief look at my top five Heisman Trophy Award candidates through the three weeks of the season:

QB Colt Brennan, Hawaii: He’s throwing the ball for a million yards (103-of-133, 1,262 yards, 12 TDs). The only problem is that no one is watching. The games are on too late, but head coach June Jones has no problem running up the score.

QB Brian Brohm, Louisville: He very well might be the best thrower in the country (69-of-103, 1,142 yards, 11 TDs). However, it’s not good that the Cardinals lost 40-34 to Kentucky. It will definitely hurt his chances at the end of the year.

RB Darren McFadden, Arkansas: A great player that has the stats (346 rushing yards, 3 TDs). But he has been the favorite for so long that it could become boring for voters.

RB Ray Rice, Rutgers: The junior tailback is having a great season (431 rushing yards, 8 TDs). Was taken out early in 59-0 blowout win against Norfolk State. Credit that to head coach Greg Schiano.

QB John David Booty, USC: Another player having a very good season (40-of-62, 5 TDs). His problem? He may be only the third best quarterback in the nation. Also, Booty plays on a great Trojan team that probably has too many other stars.
