RALEIGH, N.C. — Onnidan’s Black College Sports Online, considered by many to be the most comprehensive source on the Internet for sports information about America’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities, is expanding its services to include text messaging of HBCU football and basketball scores.

Beginning August 23, 2007, Onnidan Online, in association with the Black College Sports Information Director’s Association (BCSIDA), will provide live score updates to a subscriber’s mobile phone.

“We’ve been providing news, scores, schedules, standings, and selected poll information on our web site for the past ten years,” said Eric Moore, Managing Editor. “Now we’re incorporating “push technology” to deliver live score updates direct to a subscriber’s cell phone.”

“We tested the service during basketball season last year and BCSIDA members were enthusiastic when we explained their role in implementing the service during the association’s annual meeting this summer,” Moore said. “We’re excited about the prospects.”

In addition to its newsroom, composite schedules, and Fan Forum, the site also hosts electronic versions of the Black College Sports Page, a weekly syndicated newspaper insert distributed to African-American newspapers through the country, and podcasts from SBN Sports, Box2Row.com, and Black College Sports Nation.

The site accumulated nearly two million page views in the past year and averages over 3,500 visits per day.

“We hope that this additional service will help fans get HBCU scores more quickly, especially if they are away from their computers,” said Moore. “It will also help us update the scores on our site faster than before.”
