Heisman Trophy CONNECTICUT — Beginning in September and throughout the entire 2007 college football season, BASN will take a weekly look at the candidates for the sport’s most prestigious honor — The Heisman Trophy.

Today, we’ll take a look at six preseason candidates that are among the early frontrunners. Many more will emerge as the season progresses, but these six already have some impressive credentials.

Darren McFadden: The Arkansas junior tailback has it all. He is the odds-on favorite to win the Heisman. He rushed for 1,647 yards last year in fourteen touchdowns.

John David Booty: The USC quarterback certainly has a great arm. He is the leader of a team that is picked to win the national championship. He threw 29 touchdown passes last year.

Ray Rice: This multipurpose runner for Rutgers rushed for 1,794 yards last year and was one of the reasons that Scarlet Knights finished the season at No. 12.

Chad Henne: This native of Pennsylvania threw for 2,508 yards last year. He has been a staple at quarterback for Michigan for the last three seasons. He had an incredible 309 yards in the Rose Bowl.

Steve Slaton: This junior running back can do it all. Many have picked West Virginia to contend in the national championship and he would be one of the reasons. He rushed for 1,744 yards last season.
