SIAC Announces 2007 Preseason Football Honors

SIAC TUCKER, Ga . — The SIAC Football Coaches Association has announced its 2007 Preseason All Conference Football Team and Predicted Order of Finish. Highlighting the list are 29 returning players, including all but two first-team honorees. Albany State was selected as the favorite to win the Conference Title for the fifth consecutive year.

Sherard Ellis, a junior quarterback for Lane College leads a list of nine Dragons named to the list including five who were named to the first team. Tuskegee University finished a close second with eight players named to the list.

The preseason team first team offense is comprised all of returning players including Ellis, senior RB Elijah Clark (Benedict), senior WR’s Virgil Union (Lane), Jerome Bryant (Kentucky State), junior TE Earnest Everett (Morehouse) and senior OL Anthony Driver (Tuskegee).

For the defense, seniors Curtis Johnson and Michael Porter (Clark Atlanta) who helped lead the efforts for the No. 1 defense in the NCAA, anchors the all conference team. The SIAC tackles leader from 2006, senior DB Ivan Diggs (Fort Valley State) leads the all conference defensive back core with seniors Carl Spellman (Benedict), Denatay Heard (Stillman) and Harvey Scott (Lane).

The second team offense is comprised of impact players including senior QB Charles McCullum (Stillman), senior RB Richard Fitzhugh (Tuskegee) and senior WR Ed Williams (Lane). For the defense, impact players include sophomore LB Jonathan Hall (Tuskegee), along with seniors DL Anthony Richardson (Kentucky State), DB Terrance Stringer (Tuskegee) and DBDeaveon McCord (Stillman).

Albany State was chosen as the favorite for the SIAC title followed by Tuskegee University, Fort Valley State, Clark Atlanta, and Lane College.
