CIAA Announces 2007 Preseason Football Honors
Elizabeth City State was picked to repeat as champs of the Eastern Division. Last season the Vikings posted the best record in school history and hosted Roebuck Stadium’s first ever playoff game in their first post season appearance since 1981.
They will be attempting back to back winning seasons for the first time since the 1980-81 campaigns where they finished 7-2-1 and 8-3, respectively. The Vikings will open up the season at home against Catawba College on September 1st at 6:00pm.
As for the Western Division, Fayetteville State and Saint Augustine’s were tabbed as co-favorites. The Falcons (4-6, 4-3 CIAA) return with a stingy defense which was ranked No. 2 nationally in Division II and first in the conference in total defense at the end of the regular season.
Despite a 3-7 (2-5 CIAA), the Broncos will be a highly-regarded team to deal with in 2007. FSU have 24 returning veterans (10 on defense) and a talented crop of newcomers with the ability to fit into head cocah Kenny Phillips’ scheme.
Predicted Order of Finish
