Hampton Leads HBCU 2007 NFL Draft Prospects

HOUSTON — Coach Joe Taylor’s Hampton Tigers, the defending 2005 Black College National Champions, will definitely have the talent to defend its title.

Taylor is regarded as one of the elite coaches in college football. The Tigers, led by defensive back Travarous Bain and linebacker Justin Durant, head four black college players that are on NFL scouts radar.

Bain is a 6-0, 178 pound cornerback with 4.4 speed in the 40-yard dash is projected to go in the second round. Durant is a three-time MEAC Defensive MVP. The 6-1, 235 linebacker has been clocked with 4.55 speed.

Running back Alonzo Coleman and defensive back Calvin Bannister, 5-8, 180 with 4.39 speed plays the opposite corner from Bain.

Alcorn State’s defensive end Martin Jackson is rated one of the top defensive linemen in the nation. His stock continues to rise.

Mississippi Valley wide receiver Tyrone Timmons and quarterback Aries Nelson are on the NFL radar. Grambling offensive tackle Andre Bennett (6-6, 350), is also on the watch list.

Tuskegee’s 6-1, 218 pound quarterback Kevin Huff’s stock is also rising.
