PHILLY’S NEW “ROCKY” ( AKA FLASH ) CLOSER TOM GORDON

CELEBRATING ONE OF HIS 9 SAVES

No need for Tom Gordon

to watch “Rocky”

’cause he’s living the Life

in Philadelphia

Gordon arrived here with the nickname Flash which he is known by around Baseball and uses himself to find himself worthy of yet a new title very much attached to this bell ringing city. When they went looking for a new top reliever The Closer after last season the Phillies were nor certain Gordon was the Man. Now they are. After their former Star Reliever Billy Wagner took his bags and left to Close for the Mets.

This still young season Gordon is perfect.

9 save opportunities . 9 Saves. After the New York Yankees cast Gordon off for Younger Blood after last season, Gordon who was only a Middle Reliever to Yankee Closer and “royalty” Mariano Rivera, saw his Stock rise as a number of clubs desperate for good relief tried to sign him.

Even the Yankees realized their Error tried to win him back but it was too late.

Tom Gordon knew

he could Close

somewhere

Else

Despite being 39 years old, with arm surgery to his name, and 17 years in the Big Leagues, Clubs saw Quality when Gordon walked out of the Yankee clubhouse with his suitcase packed. Carrying his walking papers. Looking for directions to Atlanta or Baltimore and places further West before Philadelphia offered him a Home. And he can buy a good one with the $18 Million 3 year contract he got here.

Now he is proving himself

game after game

As of Saturday afternoon along with his perfect save record of 9-0 Gordon’s ERA is 0.66, with 21 Strikeouts, only 5 Walks and NO Homers allowed all in 14 2/3 innings of work. Gordon is one very good reason the formerly lowly Phillies are in 2nd Place trying to give the Mighty Mets a run for the Money and 1st Place.

( not that they will be able to do it )

Gordon says he is ready and able to pitch in every Philadelphia game this season if that what it takes. Of course even Rocky Flask Gordon isn’t that Bionic but he may end up pitching in half the Philly games and taking them to the Post Season. As he says he hungers for another World Series role. And he’ll do his part. To get there.

Not bad for a Pitcher

almost 40 years old

now reaching

His Prime

Play the Rocky theme

over and over for

Tom Gordon
