Matee Ajavon Needs to Comes Up Big

Ajavon strikes fear into other teams when her game is on.She is that good, that fast and that skilled.Maybe the fastest player in the nation.Sorry Ivory Latta.Certainly the fastest player on Rutgers.
The Shabazz High School product out of Newark is a 5-8 guard. She is only a sophomore.Sure that Geno Auriemma is happy about that. Her team beat him twice this year and it was largely because of her.
When she was in high school she was a third team all American. She played in the McDonald’s game and was highly recruited but she felt comfortable with Rutgers right from the start.
To advance to the game against Tennessee Rutgers had to beat TCU.They did 82-48 and Ajavon had 18 points and 13 assists.Another day at the office. She averaged 12.4 ppg this year. She had 29 against So Dakota State at the Paradise Jam in the Virgin Islands.
Ajavon is a mercurial player. Her game is not always on and it is reflected in her attitude. Some call it smugness. But those who know her just recognize that she wants to win.More than anyone. Her coach C. Vivian Stringer, who just picked up her 750th career win knows that and it is frustrating to her sometimes.
On Sunday Pondexter will get her points.Carson will drew the toughest defensive assignment.Maybe Shana Zollman.Carson always does. But the key to the game will be Ajavon. If she picks up some quick fouls and has to sit it could spell doom for the Scarlet Knights. If not and she is at the top of her game then Pat Summitt could be in some trouble.Just ask the coaches of Notre Dame,Texas and TCU.Especially TCU.They will tell you that a hot Ajavon means victory for the Scarlet Knights. And that could mean a National Championship in Boston for the Scarlet Knights.Don’t forget that name. She will be on display at noon in a couple of days.
