Baltimore, MD — College basketball will be celebrating its greatest season in 2006-07 when The “Phat 5 of College Basketball”; Kentucky, N.Carolina, UCLA, Kansas, and Duke collectively play an historical 500 years of college basketball. The Associated Press, Sporting News, Street and Smith, and Dunkadelic Inc. used different rating scales and all were unanimous in selecting Kentucky, UNC, UCLA, Kansas, and Duke as the 5 best of All-Time. The schools started at different times Kentucky-1903, N.Carolina-1911, UCLA-1920, Kansas-1899, and Duke-1906. The Phat 5 years of play for the 2006-07 season Kentucky-104 years, N.Carolina-97 years, UCLA-88 years, Kansas-109 years, and Duke-102 years. All of the combined years of play would be an amazing 500 years of play. This would be the first time in US sports history that 5 elite teams would be making such an historical achievement. The combined total of years played would be 501 years, but Kentucky was under NCAA probation during the 1952-53 season and didn’t play an competitive games, this allowed for the 500 years of play.

The Phat 5 have another remarkable record. There has been one or more Phat 5 program teams at the Final Four Four for 18 consecutive years (1988-2005). They have won 9 of those National titles 50%. Duke-3, 1991,92, 2001, UNC-2, 1993,2005, Kentucky-2, 1996-98, UCLA-1, 1995, and Kansas-1, 1988. The Phat 5 surpassed their previous record of 17 from 1962-78. That streak was ended by Magic Johnson and Larry Bird during their epic battle in 1979 that changed the Final Four, and eventually the NBA.

The Phat 5 will be trying to make it 19 consecutive Final Four’s in 2006 and 20 in 2007 to go along with the historical 500 years of play.

The Phat 5 have an incredible 50 former players on the 2005-06 NBA team rosters. The NBA has 427 players in the league. The Phat 5 makes up 11.44% of the league almost 12%. They are known as the NBA Phattastic 50.

The game of college basketball will be celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the “Dunk” being allowed back into college play. The “Dunk” was banned from 1967-76. The last time a college basketball team went undefeated was Indiana in 76′. No team has gone undefeated since the “Dunk” was put back into college basketball. Now that’s Dunkadelic!
