GREENSBORO, N.C. – Despite having four Aggies score in double figures, the Aggies still lost a tough 74-71 home opener to East Carolina in the Corbett Sports Center. Shareka Glover led four Aggies in double figures with 20 points. Tillman had 17 points, while Bianca Johnson finished with 12 points and eight rebounds, and Melea Gibson added 13 points and nine boards.

Both teams led by as much as 10 on the night. The Aggies led by 10 midway through the first half, while the Pirates took a 10-point lead early in the second half. There were also 10 lead changes in the game, but unfortunately for the Aggies the 10th lead change went to the Pirates.

The Aggies led the Pirates 71-68 with 1:39 remaining in the game. ECU’s Cherie Mills pulled the Pirates to within one on a turnaround jump shot 11 seconds later. An Aggies turnover gave the Pirates the ball back with 61 seconds remaining.

The Aggies defense would respond for 28 seconds after the turnover as it appeared the Pirates would commit a shot clock violation. But Glover was called for a foul on ECU’s Jasmine Young with two seconds remaining on the shot clock. The foul led to two made Pirate free throws and a 72-71 Pirates lead with 33 seconds to play in the game.

When Tillman’s shot bounced off the rim, the Pirates (3-1) claimed the rebound and the win. Mills led the Pirates with 36 points on 17-for-21 shooting. She also had eight rebounds and four blocks. Only one other Pirate was in double figures as Young finished with 11.

The Aggies return home to play S.C. State at 2 p.m., Saturday in what will be their MEAC opener.
