HOUSTON — Tony Banks has been the Houston Texans number 1 backup quarterback behind David Carr since he arrived on the scene in the Texans inaugural season in 2002. He is the Texans Minute Man. He is ready on a minute’s notice. Tony is going into his 10th season in the NFL.

As a testimonial to his exceptional ability the Texans decided to extend Tony’s contract with the team in case starter David Carr is injured or is not moving the ball. Tony has the skill, dedication, drive and intelligence for the job.

The Texans signed Banks because it gave them another starter coming off the bench. He has been a starter for the Rams, Ravens and Redskins.

In 2003 Banks proved that he could still lead an NFL team when he led the Texans to wins over Carolina and Buffalo in relief of David Carr and almost engineered a stunning upset of the eventual Super Bowl Patriots.

Tony was a three sport lettermen in football, basketball and baseball at Hoover High School in San Diego, California

The former All-American signal caller from Michigan State was original drafted by the Rams in the second round of the 1996 NFL draft. He was drafted by the Minnesota Twins where he played briefly as a right fielder in their Class A organization, but decided football was his calling.

As the Rams second round choice in 1996, Tony started all 16 games in 1997 and 14 in 1998. He was traded to the Ravens and started 12 games in 1999 and 11 in 2000. He was traded to the Redskins where he started 14 games in 2001. He was signed as a free agent by the Texans in 2002.
