Rams Win Their 2nd Straight

Updated: September 27, 2005

Richmond, VA – The Winston Salem State University Rams used a steady dose of Martin Hicks running and hard nose defense to clobber Virginia Union 31-0 surprisingly Saturday night at Virginia Union University in Richmond, VA.After a lackluster first quarter, Hicks scored three second-quarter touchdowns including a 37-yard touchdown run that gave the Rams a 7-0 lead, a lead which they would never relinquish. Thr Rams came right back with more offense as Hicks capped a two-play, 18-yard drive with his second touchdown of the game as he scampered into the Panther endzone from five yards out after a turnover by VA Union. Hicks would not finish there as he would take advantage of yet another Panther turnover less than one minute later as he broke free for a 42-yard touchdown run only 45 seconds later to put WSSU up 20-0 the point after was blocked.

With the win, the Rams improve to 2-3 overall on the season and move to 2-0 in the CIAA. The Rams improve to 18-20-1 versus the Panthers all-time with the win, and Kermit Blount improves his overall record versus his former offensive coordinator Arrington Jones III (now the head coach at VUU) to 2-0.

WSSU returns to action next Saturday evening as they travel to Fayetteville, NC to face the Broncos of Fayetteville State University. Kickoff is slated for 6:00 pm.
