Pridgen And Hicks Named Crown Trophy WSSU Athletes Of The Week

Martin HicksWinston-Salem, NC – WSSU running back Martin Hicks and outside hitter Kyra Pridgen were selected as the WSSU Crown Trophy Student-Athletes of the Week for the week ending September 25th, 2005 for their impressive athletic performances over the past seven days.

Pridgen, a senior outside hitter on the WSSU Lady Rams volleyball team helped to lead WSSU to a Lady Ram Invitational Volleyball Tournament runner-up finish on Saturday and led the Lady Rams to a five-match win streak in the process. Pridgen was also named to the Lady Ram Invitational Tournament All-Tournament team in the process. For her efforts, she has been selected as the Crown Trophy WSSU Female Student-Athlete of the Week.

Hicks, a senior running back on the WSSU football team was nearly single-handedly responsible for the Rams 31-0 road victory over their CIAA arch-rival Virginia Union University on Saturday. Hicks rushed for over 200 yards (203 total yards rushing) and scored three touchdowns in the Ram rout. For helping to lead the Rams to their second consecutive victory, and for his continued on-field excellence, he has been selected as the Crown Trophy WSSU Male Student-Athlete of the Week.
