‘Remembering the History’
Major League Baseball and the Houston Astros invite the Negro League Baseball Legends to the 2004 MLB All-Star game. “Remembering the History”, is a MLB sanctioned event honoring the Negro League Baseball Legends. July 10 and July 11 Y.P.E. invites members of the media to meet the Negro League Baseball Legends.
July 10 th at 12pm Tim Lacy, son of the legendary “Sports Hall Fame Writer” Sam Lacy will host a media roundtable discussion at the Sheraton Houston Brookhollow with fifteen Negro League Baseball Legends. Members of the media will have an opportunity to ask questions and hear the untold stories.
July 10 th, 6pm Houston Independent School Districts , the Houston Astros and Pepsi Cola invite the Houston community to a free Negro League Baseball Legends celebration at Barnett Stadium.
Local youth choirs will sing the Negro National Anthem while participating in an autograph signing session and presenting of the United States flag. Attendees will receive free Pepsi Products and a bag of Crackers Jacks to celebrate the game as the legends remember it.
July 11 th, 6:30pm , join the Negro League Legends for an evening of fine dinning and live jazz entertainment at the Sheraton Houston Brookhollow Houston. Attendee’s will see a short historical video about the start and fall of the Negro Leagues.
Please join us in welcoming Frank Evans and Ezell King of the Detroit Stars, Bill Blair and Al Burrows of the Indianapolis Clowns, William “Sonny” Randall and James Tillman of the Homestead Grays, Larry LeGrande and J.C. Hartman of the Kansas City Monarchs, John “Mule” Miles of the Chicago American Giants, Joseph Marbury and Mamie “Peanut” Johnson of the Indianapolis Clowns along with several other Negro League Legends.
The highlight of the evening will be singing Happy Birthday to the oldest living Negro League Baseball Legend as he slides into 102 years old, Ted “Double Duty” Radcliffe of the Homestead Grays.
