MIAMI, FLA.—NY/NJ Metrostars Defender Eddie Pope and 2004 Defender of the Year Robin Fraser of the Columbus Crew were among those named to MLS’ Best XI.

The lineup is similar to the NBA’s All-First Team in that the 11 players are chosen by position.

This is Fraser’s 5th selection (a record) to the Best 11 to go with 2 MLS Defender of the Year Awards, the other picked up in 1999 as a member of the LA Galaxy. Fraser not only helped shore up the defensive backline of the regular season’s top team but also helped tutor a promising young defender named Chad Marshall.

Eddie Pope, the 1997 Defender of the Year as well as the 2004 Fair Play Award winner, had another solid season with the Metrostars but will be bitterly disappointed in having watched his former side, DC United not only eliminate him from the playoffs but take the title as well.
